Ann painted over 35 watercolor and pen & ink illustrations for Secrets of the Oak Woodlands, a very popular field guide that explores the creatures, plants, trees, animals and birds that live in the oak woodlands. Published by Heyday Books in Berkeley, CA
Secrets of the Oak Woodlands was published in 2014, and has had multiple printings. It is a very popular field guide and reference to learn more about the many creatures, plants and trees that grow in the oak woodland area. I did over 35 watercolor and pen and ink illustrations for the book, and Kate Marianchild combined her years of personal observation with extensive research. Together, we created this very popular book. Above are two illustrations from the book: The California Ground Squirrel and the Western Screech Owl. The cover features a fledgling Acorn Woodpecker. I strove for accuracy in the illustrations, while showing the character of the creatures and their habitats. It is published by Heyday Books and can be ordered on Amazon, or purchased at your local bookstore.
