"I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning."- a quote from J.B. Prestley.

This quote really sums up how I feel about each day.  These are challenging times that we are living in. But each morning is another opportunity for positive things to happen.  It is the same with each watercolor painting.  It is another opportunity to express oneself, and to create bit of magic with a fresh start, and a fresh viewpoint.
It was a beautiful spring, and now the days of summer are quite warm.  I love seeing the sun breaking through the clouds, and the reflections in the water. Skies are very important in a painting, and the best skies are painted quickly, to keep the fresh look of the painting.

This semester all the classes offered at Mendocino College, where I teach, will be online. I have a new section added to my  usual Watercolor class offering this semester.  It is called "Watercolor for Older Adults." There are no prerequisites, and anyone can join. There is no credit given for the class so the college does not charge the regular fees. Experience is helpful, but not needed, the classes are structured to include basic watercolor skills but also to offer inspiring projects for any skill level.

Anyone in California can take the class for the same fee of $12. The low cost is because it is a no credit class, and also the college wants to offer a Watercolor class for continuing students.  If you are out of state, additional fees apply.  Please call the college for more info. I will give you a supply list if you need to purchase watercolor supplies. The class begins on August 17 and ends on Dec. 9. The class times are Monday-Wed. from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. We will have Zoom class meetings, Mondays at 2:00,  that last about an hour, but they are optional, and also class updates and videos on Mondays and Wednesdays.  The class assignments will be on the college platform, "Canvas", which you can view when you sign up for the class. Because it is an online class you can work on your assignments and paintings anytime that is best for you.

I have all kinds of inspiring paintings to share with you, and several projects to do just for fun! We will do Art Journaling to give you an opportunity to stop, relax, and claim a moment of each day for creativity. You do not need to do all the projects, and if you miss some classes that is fine, too. Sign up for ART 522 online at the college site,  mendocino.edu, or call the North County Center of the college at 707 459-6224.
I also will be offering ART 222A, Beginning Watercolor, and ART 222B Intermediate/Adv. Watercolor if you wish to take the classes for credit. I look forward to sharing painting with you.

I have made several teaching videos that you can view on my fb page "Illustrations by Watercolor artist Ann Maglinte." You need to be on fb to view the page, but do not need to be invited. https://www.facebook.com/illustationsbyannmaglinte/ Please check them out! The first 3 videos are of a tree in a landscape, top left corner, then 2 videos inspired by Jeanne Carbonetti who wrote The Tao of Watercolor. She uses a loose, wet on wet style that I love, and lots of spattering of water, paint and gouaches. The Plum tree below uses a fine spatter from a toothbrush to create the blossoms. I now have an Etsy store where you can see  and purchase prints of my paintings. Please visit https://www.etsy.com/shop/AnnMaglinteArtist

Please email me if you have questions.
Best Wishes, Ann                  greengables@wildblue.net

There are no craft fairs or art shows this year because of the Covid Virus.  The art centers where I show my work are closed. My artwork, cards, and scarves are still available at Cat's Meow Gifts in Willits , 29 S. Main Street. 707- 459-6201. These are some of the silk scarves I sell. Silk is an amazing surface to paint on and dye. The colors flow into each other like magic.  They are luxurious to wear, and bring glowing color to any outfit.
Three black scarves with shades of lilac, black and green.
Three variegated color silk & satin Devore' scarves.

"Art is my life. It is what gets me up in the morning and what I think about before I go to bed.  I could spend  all my days  painting and creating. Our beautiful countryside in Mendocino County constantly inspires me.  As I stop and look around me, I think: Can I capture that sunlit glow, or paint a tree with those dramatic long shadows?  Can I express with paint the softness of the fog that rests in the valleys below our home each morning?"

I received my B.A. in Art, with an emphasis in painting, from San Jose State University. I have studied watercolor and fabric design for many years at Mendocino College and the Mendocino Art Center. I was awarded  Best of Show for my painting entered in the Second Annual Animal Exhibition at the Mendocino Art Center, and I have received several awards for my paintings exhibited at the yearly WASCO Aqua Areas juried Watercolor Exhibition.  For over tthirty years I have taught art in all the schools in the Willits area,  and sixteen years at Mendocino College.  In 2009 I was honored as the Mendocino County Art Champion in the category of Artist. Each year, this honor is given to an artist who demonstrates artistic excellence in their chosen discipline, and shows a commitment to strengthening their community by using their artistic accomplishments to benefit the wider community.  I am currently teaching watercolor classes at Mendocino College online.  If you are interested in classes please click on "classes" above for more information.

We live outside Willits in a rambling house with our two cats.  My  artwork , scarves, and cards  are available  at Cat's Meow Gifts. The Willits Center for the Arts,  and the Grace Hudson Museum gift store in Ukiah are closed right now due to Covid-19.  My husband and I create a line of cement garden art, Midnight Moon Designs, and are represented by Northcoast Artists Gallery in Fort Bragg.
